__This sound piece was a protest against the New Acropolis Museum broadcasted from a roof a few meters away from the museum using two 200W speakers on the day of it’s opening, on 20 June 2009. The sound piece itself is a manipulation of a lecture made by the museums architect, making him criticize the museum and himself.
__As the sound installation was broadcasted, it seemed like it was coming from the opening ceremony itself, in a matter of fact some people who were capturing the opening with their video cameras, where also recording this sound piece instead of any official speech comming from inside the museum.
__A controversy had previously been erupted over the plans of the new museum and whether it was appropriate to build it on the archaeological site, in Makrygianni neighborhood. Another concern was whether a large modern building would fit well into the landscape.
__In 2007, another controversy erupted over the proposed demolition of two historic buildings, one a Neo-Classical and the other, one of the few examples of Art Deco architecture in Athens. These are in front of the museum facing the Acropolis and the architect wanted to remove the two buildings and nearby four-story-tall trees for a better view of Acropolis from the museum’s cafe.
__The Greek Government has had the two buildings de-listed historically, even if it was in the conditions of the international architecture contest that these two buildings would remain. Protests against the proposed demolition saved the two buildings.
